学习啦在线学习网 When young, I dreamed of becoming many things. I wished I was an astronaut going up into space, finding new planets and jumping around in a cool space suit. I imagined being a cowboy in the having gun fights and wearing stylish cowboy boots. I pretended to be a famous footballer, using my skills to score lots of goals. I love being able to play the role of somebody, even just for a short time, to try to realize what it might be like to walk in their shoes.
Looking back, I realize that imagination is a wonderful thing. I was able to create entire environments and scenarios (剧情梗概) in my head, using nothing more than my brain, and to be able to adapt things in my everyday surroundings to fit the specific story of the day. Growing up with brothers and sisters also helped, as it meant that even bigger stories could be created, combining our ideas and putting our thoughts into action. It also allowed for more varieties in the story, as sometimes I could be the hero while on other occasions, I would be the bad guy.

“A serious attack on the fairy tale as children’s literature comes from those who don’t wish children to be frightened,” writes C.S. Lewis in an essay.
Those who say that children must not be frightened mean two things. First, they mean that we mustn’t do anything likely to make children frightened. Secondly, they want to keep out of their minds the fact that they are born into a world of death, violence, pain, and adventure. C.S. Lewis says he agrees with the first reason, but not the second.
学习啦在线学习网 He comments that “since it is so likely that they will meet cruel enemies, let them at least have heard of brave knights (骑士) and heroic courage. By limiting your child life in which nothing at all alarming ever happens, you would fail to drive away the terrors, but would succeed in driving away all that can make them brave.”
I love the story about St. George. It may be hard to find, but make an effort to make your children familiar with St. Georgy and the Dragon by Margaret Hodges to see the best of this tale. It is a successful adaptation from Spenser’s Faierie Queen. It begins with “in the days when monsters and giants and fairy folk lived in England, a noble knight was riding across the plain…” It’s a keeper, if you can find one to buy.
Bruno Bettelheim, a well—known child psychologist, also comments that fairy tales provide children with an invaluable education. He believes that all children have a rich supply of personal fantasies (幻想) filled with fears and anxieties and that fairy tales comfort them and offer solutions. Happy endings tell them that solutions and hope are real and model the kind of happy life children want to find.
A good fantasy suggests rather than tells possible answers to life. I believe that reading fantasy literature quickens the ability to transfer ideas from tales to reality. It’s what good literature does — it makes life larger.
学习啦在线学习网 32. C. S. Lewis may probably agree that .
A. children shouldn’t be exposed to death or violence
B. children should read fairy tales to learn about the real world.

C. It tells a beautiful love. D. It is difficult for children to read.
34. In the text, Bruno Bettelheim believes that fairy tales .
学习啦在线学习网 A. show what happy life is B. are filled with fears and pain
学习啦在线学习网 C. cause children too much anxiety D. teach children how to solve problems
35. What would be the best title for the text?

学习啦在线学习网 W: So, can I join you in one of your study sessions?

The 10th Annual Outdoor Pool and Grill Show will return to Chicago, and if you enjoyed last year’s show, you’re going to love this year’s event. It will still be in July, but this year, it will not be held at the Civic Center as usual. Instead, it will be at the Chicago Fairgrounds just outside town. This area offers more parking, which was a problem last year. There will be a special display of above-ground exercise pools. These pools are small, and they provide the opportunity for as much exercise as a full-size Olympic pool. Don’t forget to check out the barbecue equipment, too. Over fifty companies will be showing off their products. Of course, that means you will have no trouble finding food, which will be for sale from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.! Tickets are for adults and for children, but you can get a family ticket for two adults and up to three children for just in total. To avoid long lines, buy your tickets in advance on our website. See you at the show!
