The sharing economy has grown in recent years to include everything from apartment sharing to car sharing to community tool sharing. Since 2009,a new form of sharing economy has been emerging in neighborhoods throughout the US and around the world—Little Free Libraries. The libraries are boxes placed in neighborhoods where residents(居民) can take out and leave books. Little Free Libraries come in all shapes and sizes. Some libraries also have themes, focusing on books for children, adults, or tour guides.
学习啦在线学习网 In 2009,Tod Bol built the first Little Free Library as a gift to his mother, a devoted reader. When he saw the people of his community gathering around it, exchanging conversations as well as books, he knew he wanted to take his simple idea further. “I think Little Free Libraries open the door to conversations we want to have with each other.” Bol said.
Since then, his idea has become a movement, spreading from state to state and country to country. According to Little Free Library. org, there are now 18,000 of the little structures around the world, located in each of the 50 US states and 70 countries in Europe, Africa and Asia.

The little wooden boxes are refreshingly physical and human. For many people, the sense of discovery is Little Free Libraries’ main appeal. “A girl walking home from school might pick up a graphic novel that gets her excited about reading; a man on his way to the bus stop might find a volume of poetry that changes his outlook on life,” says the Atlantic article. “Every book is a potential source of inspiration.”

Last year my summer holiday was ruined by my bringing along a modern convenience that was too convenient for my own good: the iPad. Instead of looking at nature, I checked my e-mail. Instead of paddling a small boat, I followed my Twitter feed(推特简讯). Instead of reading great novels, I stuck to reading four newspapers each morning. I was behaving as if I were still in the office. My body was on vacation, but my head wasn’t.
学习啦在线学习网 So this year I made up my mind to try something different: avoiding the Internet. I knew it wouldn’t be easy, since I’m bad at self-control. But I was determined. I started by giving the iPad to my wife.
The cellphone signal at our house was worse than in the past, making my attempts at cheating an experience in defeat. I was trapped, forced to go through with my plan. Largely breaking away from e-mail, Twitter and my favorite newspaper websites, I had few ways to connect to the world except for the radio—and how much radio can one listen to, really? I had to do what I had planned to do all along: read books.
This experience has had a happy ending. With determination and the strong support of my wife, I won in my vacation struggle against the Internet, realizing finally that it was I, not the iPad, that was the problem. I knew I had won when we passed a Starbucks and my wife asked if I wanted to stop to use the Wi-Fi. “I don’t need it,” I said.
学习啦在线学习网 However, as we return to post-vacation life, a harder test begins: Can I continue when I’m back at work?
学习啦在线学习网 There are times when the need to know what’s being said right now is great. I have no intention of giving up my convenience completely. But I hope to resist the temptation to check my e-mail every five minutes, which leads to checking my Twitter feed and a website or two.
I think a vacation is supposed to help you rest your brain to become more productive. Here I hope this one worked.

Scientific experiments can sometimes go wrong and when they do the results may range from the disastrous to the troubling. One such experiment took place in South America about fifty years ago. Whether its final consequences will cause serious damage or nothing more than a small trouble still remains to be seen.
学习啦在线学习网 The story began in 1956 when an American scientist working in Brazil decided to solve the problem of increasing the productivity of that country's bees. He imported a very active type of African bee from Tanzania and mated (交配) it with the more easy-going native variety to produce a new kind of bees. The new bees worked harder and produced twice as much honey. It seemed that Professor Kerr, for that was the scientist's name, had a total success on his hands.
Then things began to go wrong. For some reason as yet unseen, but perhaps as a result of something in their environment, the new bees began to develop extremely attacking personalities. They became bad-tempered and easy to be angry, attacked the native bees and drove them from their living places.
But worse was to follow. Having taken over the countryside, the new bees, with their dangerous stings (叮) , began to attack its neighbours -- cats, dogs, horses, chickens and finally man himself. A long period of terror began that has so far killed a great number of animals and about 150 human beings.
学习啦在线学习网 This would have been bad enough if the bees had stayed in Brazil. But now they are on the move, heading northwards in countless millions towards Central and North America, and moving at the alarming speed of 200 miles a year. The countries that lie in their path are naturally worried because it looks as if nothing can be done to stop them.
32. The results of the South American experiment .

C. are highly thought of D. are not yet certain

A. Their production of honey. B. Their hard work.
学习啦在线学习网 C. Their living environment. D. Their bad temper.
35. The last paragraph implies that .
A. the bees have been driven to Central and North America
学习啦在线学习网 B. the bees may bring about trouble in more countries
学习啦在线学习网 C. the bees must be stopped from moving north
学习啦在线学习网 D. the bees prefer to live in Brazil

Sit in the Front Row.

学习啦在线学习网 Speak up.
During group discussions many people never express their opinions because they’re afraid that people will judge them for their saying something stupid. 39 By making an effort to express your opinions at least once in every group discussion, you’ll become a better public speaker, more confident in your own thoughts.
