　　J: He was arrested by the police for drinking and driving.

　　A: Was it his first offence?

　　when he was in university.

　　A: What happened to him then?

　　J: Not much; it was a minor offence back then.

　　He got away with a fine of $ 500.

　　J: No, they were really easy on him.

　　They're much tougher on crime now.

　　J: Well, he'll definitely lose his license, pay a fine,

　　Does he have a defence lawyer?

　　J: Not yet. If we can't find a lawyer for him,

　　J: That'd be great. I know he'd appreciate your help.

　　J: Yes, that must have been on the news a few months ago.

　　J: Do you think they will impose the death sentence on her?

　　A: I don't think so.

　　J: It was abolished at one point,

　　A: I'm not sure. How do you feel about the death penalty?

　　J: I don't think anyone should be able to kill another human being

　　unless it's in self-defence.

　　A: You know; paying for someone to sit in prison for the rest of

　　his or her lives is quite expensive.

　　] : In all honesty, I thought that I was watching a news story

　　the survivors almost immediately in Asia,

　　whereas in New Orleans,

　　some people went without food or water for days.

　　start to re-build their lives.
